Why do we need Volunteer Shop Assistants?

To assist the Manager in our Charity shop to receive and prepare donations and serve the Charity’s customers, in order to raise funds for Hospice Services.

What will you be doing?

  • Receiving and sorting donations, looking out for any unusual or valuable items
  • Preparing clothing donations for sale (hanging, sizing, steaming and labelling)
  • Pricing clothing items at their full value to generate maximum income by considering factors such as brand, quality and condition of the garment
  • Help to maintain a continuous supply of fresh stock for our customers
  • Pricing non clothing donations, taking into account age, demand, condition and collectability
  • Operating our stock rotation procedure
  • Arranging saleable stock into themed displays
  • Serving customers – helping with queries, using the till
  • General cleaning of showroom/display area

What skills will you need?

  • Passion for the Hospice Charity
  • Good customer service skills
  • Good attention to detail/presentation
  • Team work
  • Friendly / Approachable
  • Knowledge of brands (desirable)
  • Retail experience (desirable)

What support will you receive?

  • Full training
  • Induction
  • Ongoing support from the Shop Manager and fellow volunteers

What will you gain from volunteering?

  • Have the satisfaction that you are making a valuable contribution to the work of the Hospice.

We welcome volunteers of all ages and experiences, including students completing their Duke of Edinburgh awards. Full training and support is provided for all volunteer roles.
