"Last year we supported 1,500 patients in the local area"

High Wycombe Mayor Cllr Brian Pearce invites local lottery winner for cheque presentation at the Mayor's Parlour

Aug 11, 2017

The Hospice Lottery’s Summer Superdraw winner Mrs B was delighted to be invited to meet the Mayor Cllr Brian Pearce and the Beadle, Richard Gooding, in full ceremonial regalia in the historic Mayor's Parlour at the Wycombe District Council Offices.

Mrs B won the top prize of £5,000 when the draw was held at The South Bucks Community Hospice’s new building, Butterfly House, on the 12 July and attended by Cllr Brian Pearce who did the honours of hitting the button setting the draw in motion and choosing the lucky winner.

A very delighted Mrs B from Wendover couldn’t believe it when she got the call not only to say she had won, but also that Cllr Pearce wanted to present the winning cheque to her in the historic Mayor's Parlour.

Mrs B said: “I support The Hospice Lottery to help raise funds for the wonderful work that my local hospices do, I never expected to win anything, let alone the Summer Superdraw top prize. It is truly wonderful.

“Then being invited to the Mayor's Parlour and being presented with my cheque it was such a treat. I am now looking forward to sharing my good fortune with the rest of my family.”

As well as helping HLP’s Superdraw Cllr Pearce is also this year supporting The South Bucks Community Hospice through his Mayoral Appeal. He said:

“It was an honour and privilege to meet Mrs B and I enjoyed showing her around and sharing some of the traditions and treasures that are so much a part of Wycombe’s history.”

HLP supporters have been raising funds for five local hospices including The South Bucks Community Hospice and Rennie Grove Hospice Care, through a weekly draw and bi-annual Superdraws since 1997 and have funded a staggering £10 million of hospice care, providing valuable services for those with life limiting illnesses.

The Summer Superdraw alone raised more than £43,000 and was very generously supported by The Crown Inn in Farnham Royal and Cartridge Lodge in Chesham who donated runner-up prizes.
