Join us to walk 80 miles of Britain’s oldest road in 2021 and fundraise for Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity.

Following a route used since prehistoric times by travellers, herdsmen and soldiers, the Ridgeway passes through ancient landscapes through downland, secluded valleys and woodland.

Due to the disruption caused by the coronavirus outbreak and Government advice on how to respond to it, the Ridgeway Walk was postponed in 2020 and the new dates are 25th-28th March 2021.

The four-day guided charity walk along 80 miles of the Ridgeway, starts in Swindon and passes historic sites such as the Uffington White Horse and Grimms Ditch to the finish at Florence Nightingale Hospice in Aylesbury.

The four day Walk is 80 miles in total, covering approximately 20 miles each day. The two day Walk covers approximately 40 miles.

20 miles in one day, for four days is a challenge but you do not need to be an athlete or a marathon runner to achieve it.

As long as you are in good health and generally active then, with a little preparation and training, this distance is completely attainable. We can provide you with a training plan to help you reach your goal at a sensible pace and you will be assisted by guides and experts throughout the entire Trek.

If you have any medical conditions or concerns, please do consult a doctor before registering.

The total amount you will need to raise or pay for the four day Walk is £999 (£499 for two day Walk). You can take part in the Trek by using either a self-funded or fundraising option.

The deposit for the Trek regardless of which option you choose is £99 for the 4 day and £49 for the 2 day weekend option. This is paid at the time of registration and holds your place.

  • Fundraising option – Simply pay your deposit and commit to fundraising £900 for the 4 day trek or £450 for the 2 day trek.
  • Self-funding option – Pay your deposit and then a further £400 for the 4 day trek and £200 for the 2 day. You are not committed to a fundraising target but of course we would love you to raise additional funds to help support our Hospice.

Our Fundraising Team will be there to support you with your fundraising activities and planning.

Because without the contributions of people like you who do challenges like this and fundraise for our Charity, the Florence Nightingale Hospice could not provide all the services it does to those in our community who need end of life care in the Hospice or at home, or who need support to live with life-limiting or terminal illness.

We could not provide care in their own homes for sick children whose families need a break or time to care for siblings, or provide comfort and a listening ear when people are bereaved. And much more.

It can be quite daunting to have a fundraising target, especially when social distancing is required.  However most people find that this is far easier than they imagined, and we will give you as much support as you need to reach your target!

We’ve put together a selection of ideas for virtual fundraising that you can do safely from home or you may be able to come up with more ideas of your own.

We can provide you with posters for your fundraising activities, social media shout outs to help you spread the word, a dedicated JustGiving Ridgeway Trek campaign page which you can link to, sponsorship forms, buckets, branded balloons and a branded T-Shirt for you to wear while fundraising (and training!). We will support you all the way.

In our experience, most people meet or exceed their target in no time!
